Shift = Lunch
Weather = 61, Extremely Windy, Insanely big surf. Tritons PMS is clearly worse than mine and believe you me that is saying something.
This morning I awoke to an email stating that after our 7 month lease is up at our resort we reside at the owner will not be renewing our lease. Well FAN-FRICKING- TASTIC!! We get to move again this year! This is probably because our lease ends in April and this guy can make a week what we pay a month between the months of April to September here if not more. So not only have I started place hunting I have begun to wonder how much of my "Summer fortune" I will need to put back to sustain me in the winter months next year. Since I have never worked a summer here before I truthfully have zero idea what to expect or what we can afford. This is a bit stressful because I have until March to figure this out and make a solid decision. Pray for me that my eyes will not be bigger than my wallet when it comes to selecting yet another home here. This wont be easy for me.
Today was a steady and good day. I had pleasant people who were in good moods and tipped me over 20% on every ticket. I also had a lady that tipped me more than what her bill was. It blew my mind. I always appreciate people that commit these random acts of kindness at my job and I ended my day later than normal but in decent spirits. No drama today and no bad tables... well not for me at least.
The very first table that came in today sat in Lonnie's section. I also want to mention that Lonnie is a sweet, gorgeous, christian girl that was my absolute first friend here. She would do anything for anyone at anytime and I think she is an amazing person. Lonnie has a teaching degree from Purdue and moved to Destin on a whim at 24 because after a vacation she fell in love with it. She picked up and left Indiana and started a new life here to be a beach bum like me and is taking her time figuring out her life and making friends along the way. As I said, Lonnie got the first table today and the look on her face when she came back into the wait station after taking their order today was an absolute priceless picture of exasperation and worry. The couple she was waiting on was an older couple and seemed to be pleasant from afar.. until the lady apparently pulled a frozen dinner from her bag and asked Lonnie to heat it up for her. Seriously?? Who walks into a resturant by the sea and says " Hey, here is my lean cuisne, go ahead and pop this in your microwave for me will ya doll?" Poor Lonnie... it turns out that we by law are not allowed to prepare outside food brought in by patrons and Lonnie had the honor of telling her so. Lonnie relays the message with genuine heartfelt regret as well all watch discreetly from behind the front wait station. The message is not recieved well. The woman proceeds to tell her she is currently only eating fruits and vegetables at this time and if Lonnie wont accomodate her she will just eat it cold. Wow. Lonnie offers her corn, salad, a fruit cup, steamed vegetables.. anything she could to keep this woman from eating her frozen popsicle of a lunch out in the open resturant and is unsuccessful. The husband orders and the woman rips off the plastic covering of her food and chissels out her lunch. Lonnie could not have felt worse but the rest of us could not have been more amazed or entertained. Im so lucky I got the little old lady who kept ordering double Makers Marks and GingerAles. Now THAT woman was on vacation.
Another gem from today comes at the end of the day as Cim is listing the specials for the day to a large group that just sat down at her table. She first mentions the fried flounder for 6.99 with a choice of one side. A woman with the most serious and sincere look on her face looks up at her and asks her how the fried flounder is prepared. Fried Flounder. Think this one over if you will. How on earth did she assume that FRIED Flounder is prepared? God help me I would have looked at her with genuine seriousness and said " Boiled" and walked away. Cim is not good at being a wide eyed smart ass like I am so of course she patiently replies, " Uh, Mam, its fried." Bless her heart and butter her biscuts I swear sometimes I work with some sweet souls. Maybe it will rub off on me. I doubt it though, Im 31 and set firmly in my ways. You never know though, maybe God's lesson behind this is to teach me humility and patience in life. God doesnt know my sense of humor is far sicker than his.
All in all the day ended late but uneventful for me. I enjoyed watching surfers try to paddle out to ride the enourmous swells in today only to be tossed back to shore by the first waves they met and kite surfers almost be slammed into our building. I was so jealous. Someday I will take up some extreme water sport here. For now I will stick to waiting talbes in this world famous town of ours. That is full contact and extreme enough for me, well for now anyway.
hahaha.. the mental picture of some random woman eating her frozen lean cuisine is hilarious. my blog is candidcollection.blogspot.com , fyi.

Too funny! I will have someone bring in gluten free bread and ask to toast it. But NEVER a frozen dinner. lmao!
