01/10/2012, 100% chance of rain and snowbirds

01/10/2012
Shift = Lunch
Weather = 63 degrees, drizzly and rainy.

Today began with me being sleepy and just generally blah over all.  Id also like to point out that I have a monsterous case of PMS and I would have loved to have had a couch and movie day at home. Today that did not happen and so off to work I went.  Today began slow and I was already full of irritation due to hormones so while stuffing sugar caddies I kept my headphones on and listened to my Rhianna radio on Pandora. Mostly because my least favorite kitchenn worker was working today and out in the front of the house spouting his mouth about this or that. Do you have those people you work with that just by being around them it makes you want to commit some sort of henious act? Ill bet you do. Ill bet there is some short, bald, fish faced guy who thinks he knows it all and acts like it too. I know this because no matter where I have worked its always been the same when it comes to groups of people that are crappy individuals. You see you have your short men that never got any play nor were they good enough athletes to be anything of importance in high school and so they will spend the rest of their lives hating most women and trying to strut around in their middle management style jobs talking down to others so that at the end of the day they can go home feeling entitled or respected.  News flash! If you are one of these people, no one respects you, we all laugh at you behind your back, and if you think I will respect you because you have been frying shrimp in a resturant for the past 5-10 years and made some form of kitchen management you are sooo wrong. Ive had these types of men who were higher in social class, smarter, and over all somewhat capable of backing up their " Im an asshole and I will treat those beneath me like crap because they threaten me " act that never broke me. I tip my hat and wish you luck fish face, you wont be the one that does it either. Sorry, go cry in your trailer.

Anyway, as I was saying today was slow and I began my day with out feeling it. I am always happy and thankful to have a job and over all I hope my General Manager Clive, Lisa, Terri, and Kevin think that I do a good job.  I do all my side work and extra work while taking care of my tables so I think that its noticed. Guess we will find out.  Snowbirds ( Rich old people who "winter" in Destin ) who have their waters, gumbo, draft beers, and key lime pie keep us afloat in the winter months. Well, whatever winter is here. They want to make small talk with me at each table and over all I enjoy this. They seem sweet and some remind me of my deceased grandparents so its nice to hear where they are from and its nice they genuinely seem interested in me. Today I was told a story by an old couple that had vacationed in southern Mississippi after Katirna and were confused by a resturant that had nothing but paper cups, paper dishes, and plastic forks. Apparently that when the resturant had been able to reopen the people who had come in to wait tables had never waited tables in their lives and couldnt carry trays so the waitstaff could not be trusted with actual dishes and glasses.  I cant imagine a resturant full of people like me who had either never waited tables or hadnt done it before in a number of years. I hear little random stories like this all the time and I smile and nod along, mostly just looking at them thinking how they were so lucky to be able to retire in the fashion they are because I just dont know if my generation will be able to lead cushy lives by the coast in our 70-80's since our economy is circling the toilet. Good for them, let us take a lesson. I hope one day I am telling stories to a waitress on the coast about having done her job before because I am on a four month long vacation by the emerald coast.

Chad came by to say hi at the same time was cut so we left and went down to Caribean Carls and had a drink and some wings and shrimp watching surfers and paddle boarders. This summer I will be buying a paddle board and I cant wait to try it out. Looks like an awesome core workout, will give me balance enough to learn to surf eventually, and keeps me safe enough from sharks.  From there it was a drizzly car ride home and so here I am writing my Blog with my glass of room temprature merlot listening to the spouse help my reason for living do her homework. So here is to her generation being able to retire on the beach even if mine is not able to.
